Coach Cari Concludes Track Nationals

 Higgins Concludes Track Nationals

Carson, Calif. (October 4, 2009)-USA Cycling awarded the final stars-and-stripes jerseys on Sunday as the 2009 USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships concluded at the ADT Event Center velodrome at the Home Depot Center on Sunday.

Cari Higgins (Boulder, Colo./Proman Hit Squad) added a career seventh national title by winning the women's team sprint with partner Anna Lang (La Jolla, Calif./B&L Bike and Sport).  She adds to the title she won earlier in the week by winning the first ever Women's Omnium title, an all-day five event competition that combines sprint and endurance events to determine the best all-around track rider.

Higgins has highlighted the Women's Omnium at the 2010 UCI Track Cycling World Championships as her goal for the season.

"In the big picture, it's my goal to represent the USA at the World Championships in March.  With the news about the Omnium potentially being added to the London Olympics in 2012, this event became my focus.  I proved that I am the best all-around track racer in the USA."

Next up for the American track racer, Higgins will join a Dutch rider to compete in the cycling classic Amsterdam Six-Day Track race, a combination of Madison and individual events.  The following week, she will compete for her Proman Hit Squad team in Manchester, England for the first World Cup of the 2009-2010 season.

Cari is coached by former national champion and national record holder, Missy Thompson, and Mark Tyson.
